Stripe & Stare ❀
Are Stripe and Stare the world’s comfiest knickers? That’s what some people say. Their underwear is made from Modal, a fabric three times softer than cotton, and they’ve just launched the world’s first compostable underwear.

PLANET
Stripe and Stare use TENCEL™ Modal, which is made from wood pulp and uses 95% less water than cotton and is 95% biodegradable. Using the latest in sustainable fibre technology, they’ve combined 71% TENCEL™ fibres (wood), 19% Seacell (seaweed) and 10% Roica elastane to create a world-first, fully compostable collection, B-Edit. Stripe and Stare are officially a Climate Positive Workforce, meaning that the carbon footprint of each of their employees is more than offset. They’re also partnered with Ecologi, so for every order you place, a mangrove tree gets planted in Madagascar. However, we would like to learn more about how they are tracking the company’s carbon footprint and what plans they have to be Net Zero.
PEOPLE
Stripe and Stare guarantee that their products are created in factories that pay living wages and respect, protect and support their workers. Charity-wise, they’ve worked with over 10 different charities. They give 5% of their profits to women’s empowerment charities, and recently donated approximately 2,000 pieces of underwear, pyjamas and loungewear to Trevi, a women’s and children’s charity. Not stopping there though, they are part of the Lorraine NoButts campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer. For every No Butts Knicker Box purchased, they donated 20% of the proceeds to this important cause.
BUSINESS
A certified B-corp, Stripe and Stare are also big on circularity - that’s the name of the game for anything that’s biodegradable. Their B-edit is a world-first collection of 100% compostable lace knickers, sleepwear and loungewear which they say biodegrades in 180 days. (They’ve even got a video to prove it!). They also know all of their suppliers, and where they come from, so are strong on traceability. The next step is for them to produce an annual impact report with more details, including their carbon emissions, in order to further increase their transparency.
