PLANET
Star Seed are on a mission to make skincare regenerative. They are guided by the Science Based Targets with carbon insetting covering 100% of Star Seed's emissions. They have planted over 5,100 tree saplings from more than 60 different indigenous & endangered species. The extent of their tree planting is impressive for a small brand. We love their use of Explorer app technology to show the tree plantations and where their ingredients are grown in East Africa. Every ingredient has full provenance with organic & wild certifications. Star Seed have set themselves the goal of being Net-Zero by 2035 across all scope 1, 2 and 3, but we would like to see a comprehensive breakdown of their emissions.
PEOPLE
Star Seed is a UK-based company, with all their suppliers based in Kenya. They source their ingredients from Kenyan smallholders who receive above-market rates. They work closely with a local Kenyan charity, LEAF, which empowers marginalised groups such as women and young people. 100% of their energy is sourced renewably and by investing 10% of their profits, they have planted over 5,100 indigenous trees so far.
ANIMALS
Star Seed say they don’t test on animals but do not yet have any certification.
BUSINESS
Star Seed have just introduced a refill system for their new, durable plastic free jars, from their award-winning Plastic Free Champions manufacturers. All orders include UK wildflower seeds for customers to plant and grow. We are looking forward to the outcome of their pursuit of Positive Luxury and B-Corp certification.
