PLANET
Stella McCartney has a comprehensive plan to meet Net Zero by 2040. The company prioritises avoiding and reducing emissions but also supports REDD+ projects around the world, including the Southern Cardamom project, conserving 497,000 hectares of critical tropical rainforests and mangroves. They are working to reduce any single-use plastic in their supply chain and are participants in the Tom Ford Plastic Innovation Prize and commitment to Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Plastics Pact. Stella McCartney uses a majority of sustainable materials, including recycled polyester, organic cotton, and regenerated cashmere.
PEOPLE
Stella McCartney is a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative and has adopted a Code of Conduct that includes a living wage requirement.
ANIMALS
Stella McCartney does not create products using fur or leather. They do use wool (from non-mulesed sheep) and regenerated cashmere, which helps negate the impact on both the environment and animals. They have also partnered with PETA on various projects.
BUSINESS
Stella McCartney is a pioneer of vegan and eco-fibres which helps reduce their impact on the planet. They also are working on their circularity, with their Cradle to Cradle Gold-Level certified wool knitwear yarn has been certified as a safe building block for the circular economy. They offer a global repair scheme in their stores. Their annual impact report provides a huge amount of information on their emissions, supply chain and raw materials and has a comprehensive plan of how the company is getting to Net Zero and moving towards a more regenerative business model.
