PLANET

Sarah Raven uses a variety of sustainable sources to fuel their plant nurseries, including solar power and bio-thermal boilers. They reduce the probability of harmful chemicals from entering water supplies by opting for hygiene and biological controls where possible instead of artificial pesticides, and all the timber used is FSC certified. 98% of their packaging is recyclable and plastic free, and around 6 million litres of water are saved from the rainwater they harvest. They are currently working with Planet Mark to measure and reduce their carbon emissions.

PEOPLE

Sarah Raven is a UK based company and we assume provide reasonable working hours and a fair wage to their workers as per UK employment regulations, as well as being a female founded company. They also support three charities, dedicated to cancer and mental health support.

ANIMALS

Sarah Raven does not use any animal products in their products, and works to ensure their suppliers do not use any neonicotinoids, which are associated with harm to bees and the wider ecosystem.

BUSINESS

Sarah Raven encourages circular consumer behaviour through their recyclable packaging and high quality, durable tools as well as their repair service. They are transparent about their policies around sustainability on their website and have outlined their goals to completely phase out peat by 2024, reduce the amount of packaging and plastic and reduce their energy consumption. We’d like to see a more ambitious goal for phasing out peat and an annual impact report from them in the future.
