PLANET
Riverford have a long track record of sustainability and tracks and measure all their carbon emissions - Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions - and are planning to reach Net Zero by 2030. Their organic farms enrich the organic matter in the soil and enable the soil to sequester more carbon, turning it back into a carbon sink. With the support of customers, in the past year, Riverford have saved 21 tonnes of plastic, donated over 1 million portions of veg to charity, planted 1525 native trees, and raised £164,744 for Send a Cow. They plan to have a 100% electric van fleet by 2025.
PEOPLE
Riverford are based in the UK, and most of their suppliers are UK based, and therefore we assume they adhere to UK employment regulations.
ANIMALS
Riverford’s meat is all organic. This means that the animals are truly free to roam, with continuous daytime access to clean organic pasture, and also enjoy a rich natural diet.
BUSINESS
Riverford is a certified B Corp. They also champion a closed-loop system by using their iconic reusable boxes which are made from 98% recycled materials and are 100% recyclable. They're designed to be reused up to 10 times. If all their customers returned their veg boxes, this would save almost 22,000 trees' worth of cardboard every year. They also release an annual impact report which is full of details on their sustainability policies and practices.
