PLANET
Grind are in the process of recording and analysing all their carbon emissions, from those closer to home Scope 1 and 2 to their supply chain, their Scope 3 emissions. They also contribute to carbon-offset projects in excess of the carbon emissions of their deliveries. Their coffee pods and packaging are compostable and plastic free.
PEOPLE
Grind say that they pay farmers significantly more than the rates set by Fairtrade. They’ve also recently launched a charitable foundation, the Better Coffee Foundation, to mitigate the impact of the wider coffee industry. The Foundation will remove two coffee pods' worth of plastic from the ocean for every Grind pod sold. Grind give employees volunteer days in order to engage with local communities around their London sites.
BUSINESS
Grind contributes to a circular economy as their coffee pods are home compostable. As a next step, it would be great to see Grind update its website with all its information on its carbon emissions and release an annual impact report to increase their transparency.
