PLANET

Olistic is a fashion company that puts sustainability right at the heart of its vision. It’s committed to reducing carbon emissions, water use, and waste whilst using certified sustainable materials to craft their products. On their website, they say they look at the entire supply chain and assess the lifecycle footprint of a single product from raw material production to textile manufacturing to your doorstep. However we can find no data about this or any information on their plans to become Net Zero. The company uses Lyocell, an ecological fiber made from pine pulp, which they source from forests in South Africa and Austria labeled PEFC (Programme for the support of forest certification).

PEOPLE

Olistic is a French brand that works with family-run workshops in Portugal and Italy, and sources its silk from India. It only uses Ahimsa peace silk, which is silk extracted from the cocoon, after the moth has left. Their website talks about empowering Indian craftswomen by helping them obtain self-confidence and financial independence. However, we’d like to see more detail on this.

ANIMALS

The peace silk organic farming is certified by “OneCert International Organic Standards“ and “India Organic NPOP“. Each step of the production chain from the fiber to the final product is controlled by the European certificate “GOTS” (Global Organic Textile Standard). They use leather scraps and sleeping rolls from the luxury industry, using a recovery cycle and REACH certified, vegetable tanning. Their knitted garments are made from geelong merino wool, from the first shearing of free-range lambs.

BUSINESS

We love that Olistic applies a zero waste policy from design to production. After cutting, the silk scraps are reused to create unique pieces, ornaments or small bags with buttons. They also have certifications in place for their fabric supplies. As a next step, we’d like to learn more about their carbon footprint, and would like to see an annual impact report in order to increase their transparency in the way they communicate their sustainability policies and practices.
