Oddbox

Have you ever wondered what happens to vegetables that are deemed too ugly by the supermarkets? Up until recently, most were simply thrown away. Now Oddbox are reducing the UK’s food waste mountain, by boxing up perfectly edible fruit and vegetables with too much personality, and selling them straight to us, the consumer.

PLANET

Oddbox track and report their scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and work with Green Element and Compare Your Footprint to reduce and offset these. Their business model helps to reduce waste, and in 2020 they saved over 8,500 tonnes of fruit and veg, equalling nearly 9,000 million litres of water and 9,500 tonnes of CO2. They use 100% recyclable and compostable packaging materials to reduce waste further. As a next step, we would like to see Oddbox report their plans for reaching net zero.

PEOPLE

Oddbox work with small-scale farmers and producers, promoting local economies and supporting small businesses. Internally, they have introduced progressive family and emergency leave policies. Oddbox also support the Felix Project, which delivers surplus food to charities and schools.

BUSINESS

Oddbox champion circularity by sourcing "wonky" and surplus produce that would otherwise go to waste. They have achieved B Corp certification (with an amazing score of 93.1) and their 2022 Do Good Report details all their great initiatives. As a next step, we’d love to see an updated version of their impact report.
