PLANET
O My Bag have released annual reports since 2019 measuring their carbon emissions, including scopes 1, 2 and 3 and details of how they inset and offset these, including their participation in the Fair Climate Fund. The leather used by O My Bag comes from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified and Gold rated tanneries in Europe and India, as well as offering a second-chance to their pre-loved or ‘perfectly imperfect’ bags. They also offer a range of vegan leather bags, however going forward we are interested in what innovative technology they will adopt to further minimise the amount of synthetic materials used in the vegan leather production process as they aim for a composition of 80% organic materials.
PEOPLE
O My Bag strives to ensure all their workers receive a fair living wage by ensuring their producers adhere to their code of conduct regarding fair wages and attempts to pay the difference between their real wages and the living wages - in 2023 they covered 13% of the living wage gap. 1% of their social revenue is donated to social impact projects surrounding their production, such as collaborations with Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre, which provides vocational skills training and extracurricular events to locals. So far, 4,430 lives have been positively impacted and they aim to increase this by 30% every year.
ANIMALS
To ensure high quality, sustainable leather, O My Bag only uses tanneries who are Leather Working Group (LWG) certified and Gold rated. The hides used are a co-product of the meat and dairy industry, the demand for which is higher than that for leather, and so they are choosing a more sustainable sourcing option.
BUSINESS
O My Bag offers a return scheme for their pre-loved bags which provides the returner with a 20% discount and allows others the opportunity to give their bags a second life for a discounted price. All packaging is made from recycled materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). O My Bag is B Corp certified since 2021 and are due to receive their recertification by the end of 2024, with hopes of scoring 20% higher. Their annual reports provide an in-depth and transparent analysis of their business practices and ethics, including areas in which improvement is required.
