PLANET
Nudie Jeans have worked with the Swedish Textile Initiative for Climate Action (STICA) and the consultancy firm 2050 Consulting AB, to map all of their emissions, in all three scopes and are working to reduce them. For the last four years, they’ve offset all their emissions via the UN Carbon Offset Platform. Like us, they believe that carbon neutrality is the minimum amount necessary for a business to claim that they take responsibility for their climate impact and the real test is reducing carbon emissions. They plan to reduce their supply chain emissions, which are the hardest to achieve, 51% by 2030 from a 2018 base year - excluding emissions from customers owning their jeans.
PEOPLE
Nudie Jeans pay their Indian and Turkish garment workers a living wage. They only work with carefully selected partners, all of whom are required to comply with their Code of Conduct. In 2020, they contributed unsold product samples to Style it Forward, the pop-up shop of Hungerprojektet (the Hunger Project), with sales revenues used to empower women in selected countries struggling with hunger and poverty.
ANIMALS
Nudie Jeans use some recycled wool in their products, as well as certified wool yarn. They are currently working on the traceability of their alpaca wool. Nudie Jeans have some Eri silk in their collection, which reduces harm to the silkworm, as the silkworm's cocoons are harvested after the moth has left the cocoon. Nudie Jeans only work with one specific Leather Working Group Gold-rated supplier based in India for their leather jackets.
BUSINESS
Every pair of Nudie Jeans comes with a promise of free repairs, to help extend the lifetime of their jeans. Plus they offer their customers 20% off a new pair of jeans when handing in an old pair of Nudie Jeans which are then sold on in their Reuse range. Nudie Jeans provide a huge amount of information on their website about their emissions, supply chains, raw materials and workforce.
