PLANET

MIRÉN Paris make beautiful shoes and state that they will reduce their carbon footprint by 50% but they do not give a date for that. As far as we can tell from their website, they do not currently track, measure or account for their scope 1, 2 or 3 emissions. Nor do they have much information on how they plan to reduce these emissions or any date for when they plan to reach Net Zero.

PEOPLE

The company has been awarded the Butterfly Mark. It has a Code of Conduct when dealing with suppliers, drawing on recognised international ethical standards including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, France’s anti-corruption legal framework, and wide-ranging competition and data protection laws.

ANIMALS

MIRÉN Paris uses leather that is a byproduct of the meat industry. Leather purchased for shoes originates from audited and gold or silver rated LWG tanneries, and suppliers are certified  by the Institute of Quality Certification for the Leather Sector. MIRÉN Paris also uses 100%  organic silk originating from safely hatched silkworms and has been certified by the GOTS.

BUSINESS

MIRÉN Paris also uses Heelthy, a bio-based plastics deriving from renewable biomass such as cellulose, sugar cane, cereal starch, beetroot and vegetable oils adapting them to their production processes. We’re impressed by their commitment to innovative and sustainable materials. They also provide lots of information about their materials on their website. However, as a next step we’d like to see them measure their carbon emissions and help us understand their plans in more detail in an impact report.
