PLANET
Mashu currently use Bulb energy in their offices, Bulb is a renewable energy provider and its supplies 100% carbon neutral gas and 100% renewable electricity. Mashu also work with TreeApp to plant 5 trees for every bag purchased. We love the extent of their tree-planting, however we would like to see some Direct Air Capture in their carbon offset plan. We would like to see Mashu fully outline their scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions as well as their plans to both eliminate these and reach Net Zero.
PEOPLE
Mashu is a small women-owned business that works closely with local manufacturing partners and suppliers in Greece, and items are fully made in Europe. Each supplier has been requested to sign Mashu’s internal Code of Conduct to ensure that they follow ethical, safe, and healthy standards of working conditions.
ANIMALS
Mashu’s bags are completely vegan.
BUSINESS
Mashu’s bags are made from recycled polyester and plastic; the handles are all made from wooden offcuts from a furniture company in Greece - this helps increase the circularity of their business. They also have their bags available for rent on ByRotation. We would love to see an annual impact report from Mashu in order to increase their transparency in the way they communicate their sustainability policies and practices.
