PLANET
Ecover measures and reports their scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. They have also taken steps to reduce their water usage during production, and assess if their formulas will biodegrade in wastewater treatment facilities or septic systems in order to reduce water pollution. As a next step, we would like to see Ecover’s plans for emissions reduction in order to reach net zero.
PEOPLE
Ecover produces their products in their factory in Belgium, and will look for producers based in Europe where needed. They also source some of their ingredients from within Europe. They have previously partnered with the charity WaterAid to bring a safe, sustainable water supply to people in Ethiopia, and aim to support more water projects in the future. As a next step, we would like to see Ecover provide more information on where they source their other ingredients from.
ANIMALS
Ecover claims to be vegan-friendly and is Leaping Bunny certified.
BUSINESS
Ecover offers refillable bottles that are made from a mix of PlantPlastic, which is produced from renewable sugarcane, and recycled plastic. Their paper packaging is made from recycled cardboard. They have been certified Platinum zero-waste by TRUE due to their waste management practices. As a next step, we would like to see an annual impact report from Brora outlining their sustainability policies and practices such as how they vet their suppliers.
PARENT COMPANY
