PLANET

Cariuma has committed to planting two trees for every pair of trainers sold. To date, they have planted over 2 million trees. For their express shipping, Cariuma have joined a program called DHL Go Green, in which shipment emissions are neutralised through nine diverse reforestation programs around the world. Cariuma use OEKO-TEX certified bamboo, 100% organic cotton and bluesign-certified chemicals to dye their materials. Despite the extent of their tree planting, we would like to see Cariuma fully outline their carbon emissions across all 3 scopes as well as their plans to both eliminate these and reach Net Zero.

PEOPLE

Cariuma’s factory is certified by Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production - WRAP. Based on the International Labor Organization (ILO) minimum wage policy guide, the average wage paid by their supply partners is 79% above the legal minimum wage, and the lowest wage is 47% above the minimum wage.

ANIMALS

Cariuma’s leather and suede materials are sourced from Leather Working Group Gold-Rated suppliers who, farm to production, observe the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility. None of their materials are sourced from areas deforested for cattle-farming purposes.

BUSINESS

Cariuma is a certified B Corp. In addition to utilising single-box packaging (their shoe box doubles as a shipping box), Cariuma use 100% recycled & recyclable paper. Cariuma’s website details their sustainability policies and practices. As a next step, we’d to see an annual impact report from Cariuma with greater detail on their decarbonisation plans and what they are doing about circularity.
