PLANET
Bird use certified woods, bio-based acetate from Mazzucchelli and recycled aluminium for their frames, which can be partially recycled or composted. They currently offset all carbon miles and are committed to becoming a carbon negative company by 2025. Their packaging is both recyclable (as certified by Enviro) and biodegradable - even their mailer bags are made from harmless water-soluble EcoWrap. We’d like to see more data on their current carbon emissions and plans for Net Zero.
PEOPLE
Bird Sunglasses are committed to ethical and fair labor practices. On their website, they say they have third party verifications to ensure that their supply chain has no forms of modern slavery, no child labour of any kind, no forced labour, freedom of association and fair and equal pay. They work with a small team of artisans in Italy and China to produce their sunglasses. Bird works with Solar Aid to distribute solar light to remote communities in Africa.
ANIMALS
All Birds are considered vegan and animal cruelty free.
BUSINESS
Bird Sunglasses is a certified B Corporation, and are also part of the B Corp Climate Collective Their suppliers meet the highest standards of manufacturing, including FSC certifications for wood. They are committed to circularity, offering a recycling program (that gives a discount on your next pair of birds!) which means that they can use elements of their frames.
