PLANET
Bio D monitors all of their carbon emissions including scope 1, 2 & 3. They’re aiming for Net Zero and we’d like to see them set a date to get there. They offset their Scope 1 and 2 emissions with Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary in Cambodia, which also supports biodiversity and the Indigenous inhabitants of the area. They’re careful about the approval of their suppliers - for example, they work with one supplier who uses ‘waste’ parts of plants such as stems to power their materials processing. Bio D only uses Sustainable Palm OIl certified by The Round Table of Sustainable Palm.
PEOPLE
Bio D was certified as one of the best workplaces for women in 2021. They are a Mindful Employer and have staff trained in Mental Health First Aid to enable them to help members of staff who may be developing or suffering from a mental health issue. Charity-wise, Bio D have supported the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, and they also send empty bottles to charities that use them for childrens' crafting projects and cleaning products to the Warren which supports vulnerable young people.
ANIMALS
All products are vegan society and Leaping Bunny approved, meaning that all their products have been audited to verify that no animal testing has been conducted in the supply chain.
BUSINESS
Within the company, their waste goes into producing RDF-Refuse Derived Fuel while their old laptops and fax machine were sent to weeecharity.com to be reused, recycled or resold back into the community. Bio D also operates a closed loop circularity initiative that allows business and individual customers to return just two or more containers for their re-laundering and refilling process, and the number of refill centres selling Bio D refills grew by 10% in 2021.
