PLANET
Benchmark Furniture take their sustainability seriously. They’ve developed their upholstery in collaboration with the Naturalmat Company, which uses natural, sustainable and biodegradable materials – coir, latex and sheep’s wool. Their furniture collection, upholstery fillings and Natural Fabric Collection all come with Red List Free and Declare Labelling, which means their ingredients lists are completely transparent, and don’t contain harmful chemicals or emit damaging VOCs, and meets the requirements for WELL Certified buildings.
PEOPLE
Benchmark offers an award-winning Apprenticeship Scheme for local teenagers, and has won National Employer of the Year for Small Businesses and Platinum Award for Excellence in Training for the last five consecutive years. They are also a member of The Living Product 50, sharing their knowledge and experience to educate future generations via talks, presentations and conferences.
ANIMALS
For their natural foam replacement they use organic lambswool, sourced locally from farms in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.
BUSINESS
Benchmark Furniture have a long list of certifications, including independently-verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Their circular business model means that 99% of the byproducts of their manufacturing are re-used, recycled or converted to energy and they offer a Lifetime Repair service to encourage refurbishment rather than replacement. They also offer a Take Back Scheme so that furniture can be returned to be refurbished or repurposed and given a new life.
