PLANET
Ba&sh calculate their carbon footprint each year to monitor and reduce their emissions. They’re prioritising reducing plastic use, opting for recycled plastic only as a last resort. Many of their raw materials come from sustainable sources, with 97% of their leather being LWG certified. It’s great to see an annual impact report from this brand. As a next step, we’d like to see a carbon emissions reduction plan going forward.
PEOPLE
Ba&sh suppliers are required to sign a code of conduct based on principles defined by the International Labour Organization (ILO).They have a gender equality index of 78%, and offer free fitness classes to promote a healthy mental state for employees. Ba&sh supports women’s entrepreneurship through multiple initiatives. They’ve been at the forefront of supporting women’s causes since 2019, with a commitment to the Women Safe and Children institute. One thing we would like to see made more apparent is the real-life impact this has had on individuals in order to fully support the statistics and amounts donated.
ANIMALS
Ba&sh incorporates some animal products, such as wool and leather, in their clothing. In line with its animal welfare policy, they claim to prohibit any inhumane practices and the use of exotic leather. The leather used must be a by-product of the meat industry. Additionally, 55% of the wool used in their clothing comes from certified spinning facilities, ensuring sustainable pasture management and high standards of animal welfare. It would be good to see certification and further information on the sourcing of the remaining 45% of wool.
BUSINESS
Ba&sh offers a more sustainable alternative to consumers by incorporating circularity into their business model. Since 2020, old fabrics have been reused and upcycled, and the same approach is applied to unsold and defective clothing.
