Bamford ❀

Bamford was founded on the belief that we need to be mindful of our connection to the earth – to live consciously, respect nature’s resources and the land that provides for us.

PLANET

Bamford have been working to reduce their emissions through the production of their raw materials as well as their packaging. They avoid unnecessary packaging where possible, embracing both recycled and recyclable solutions as well as designing high quality vessels that can be kept and given a second life. Despite this, however, we would like to see Bamford outline their scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions as well as their plans to eliminate these and reach Net Zero.

PEOPLE

Bamford’s founder, Carole Bamford, has set up several foundations to support a range of community-based causes with a particular focus and commitment to supporting women. In 2021, Bamford implemented a team of Wellbeing Champions across the business who have been formally trained as Mental Health First Aiders.

ANIMALS

The Bamford Code of Conduct outlines a strict Animal Welfare policy for all of their suppliers to adhere to. The lambskin shearling they use is a bi-product of the meat industry. We would like to see more of their wool fibres be Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified, and we would also like to see more information on the sourcing of their cashmere.

BUSINESS

Bamford works to reduce waste by producing in small runs. Their clothing is made from natural fibres capable of biodegrading in the soil, and they also limit their use of virgin man-made materials - currently 90% of the man-made fibres used in their clothing is Global Recycle Standard certified. We love Bamford’s Sustainability FAQs on their website. As a next step, we would love to see an annual impact report from Bamford in order to increase their transparency in the way they communicate their sustainability policies and practices.
