PLANET
The Wine Society provide a breakdown of their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in a detailed discussion in their Carbon Roadmap. They have plans to be net zero by 2024, but acknowledge the difficulties in achieving this with such a large number of suppliers. However, we are pleased to see them implementing their own set of sustainability standards onto their suppliers and look forward to their next sustainability report to see their progression towards their targets.
PEOPLE
The Wine Society’s Social and Environmental Supplier Code of Conduct ensures that their suppliers worldwide are providing fair and safe working conditions at a fair wage. Domestically, they are working to provide health provision to their employees and also encourage all staff to take 2 day paid leave for volunteer work. As an alcohol brand, we are pleased to see them supporting the Drinkaware charity.
BUSINESS
While The Wine Society are working to improve their glass bottle, we would also like to see improvements made in the outer packaging extend beyond their Christmas range. They are making continuous strides to improve the waste management within their offices and currently 89% of their waste is recycled or reused. We are interested to see the launch of their supplier fund to help their suppliers gain sustainability certification.
