PLANET

Ridgeview Estate has pledged to become carbon neutral across all three scopes by 2030. They then plan to reduce their emissions further although they have given no date for becoming Net Zero. The estate sequesters 72.5 tonnes of carbon which can be used to offset their emissions. They also have a rainwater harvesting system that collects and reuses rainwater for irrigation, reducing their reliance on freshwater sources.

PEOPLE

Ridgeview’s focus charity is  Table Talk Foundation, and it also sponsors Sussex Cricket Club and a variety of foundation sporting clubs in Burgess Hill. They follow a positive mental health programme, training all staff and nominating qualified mental health first aiders.

ANIMALS

Although not working directly with animals, Ridgeview Estate has indirectly improved biodiversity by planting over 10,000 trees and hedgerows around their vineyards, providing habitats for birds and other wildlife. They also prioritize soil health and biodiversity in their farming practices, using cover crops and crop rotations to promote healthy soils and reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers.

BUSINESS

Ridgeview Estate is a certified B Corporation and a founder member of Sustainable Wines GB, which provides guidance and support for sustainable wine production. As a next step, we’d love to see some more data on their overall emissions and what plans they have to reduce them to near zero.
