Reformation

Reformation claim that, after going naked, their clothes are a sustainable second. We wouldn’t go quite that far but we like that their clothes are made from low-impact materials, rescued deadstock fabrics, and repurposed vintage clothing.

PLANET

Reformation is a Climate Neutral Certified company. They have committed to reducing absolute
scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% and scope 3 emissions by 48% per value added by 2030 from a 2021 base year. As a next step, we’d like to see their plans for Net Zero.

PEOPLE

Reformation require all their direct cut, sew, and finish manufacturing partners to adhere to their Code of Conduct These include prohibiting child and forced labor, implementing health and safety protections, and meeting or exceeding legal minimum requirements in the locales where they work. Their Code of Conduct references the Fair Labour Association Workplace Code of Conduct, which is based on International Labor Organization (ILO) standards and internationally accepted good labor practices. And are third-party verified.

ANIMALS

Reformation do use some animal products in their clothing. They are committed to sourcing non-mulesed sheep wool, as well as sourcing traceable leather, particularly from Leather Working Group tanneries. We’re impressed by their work with the Materials Innovation Initiative, a next-generation materials accelerator, supporting the development of non-plastics-based leather alternatives that can not only be used in future Ref collections but be made available to the entire industry.

BUSINESS

Reformation are taking a big step towards developing a fully closed-loop system with RefRecycling, powered by SuperCircle, as well as increasing the proportion of their fabrics that are textile-to-textile recyclable, they’re currently at 15% with a goal of 100%. They also release quarterly impact reports, and provide lots of information on their website regarding their sustainability policies and practices.
