PLANET
To guarantee a thriving global fishing industry in 100 years, Pesky actively works towards sustaining fish stocks and the environments they live in, as well as regenerating these. Seafood will always be mature, sourced only from abundant stocks, and caught using low impact fishing methods. Their target is to ship in plastic free packaging by 2023, offset their total resource use, electrify all fleet vehicles, recycle ghost fishing gear, and power all processing operations using renewable energy. As a next step, we would like to see Pesky track, measure and account for their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
PEOPLE
Ordering from Pesky helps support fishing businesses and communities by allowing the company to pay fishermen the best price, creating a market for abundant and underutilised species to maximise catch value, and using coastal packing partners to create local employment opportunities.
ANIMALS
Fish are caught using low impact methods which assess the impact of fishing gear on bycatch and environmental interaction, only when they are old enough to have reproduced, in order to avoid causing lasting damage to the marine environment.
BUSINESS
In 2022, Pesky published a white paper on Regenerative Fishing, which defines the current issues within the fishing industry and the steps which need to be taken in order to reduce our impact, complete with scientific evidence. All this information is also available on their website, which aids in increasing their transparency surrounding their sustainability policies and practices.
