Caught red-handed: avoiding the toxins hiding in our period products
We’re not here to scare you, but we believe that awareness is key in taking care of your health. A study published this month has found traces of ‘forever chemicals’ (PFAs) in period products. Luckily, there are more and more products on the market that do not use synthetic chemicals at all - and that includes period products. Here’s our run down of some of the best.
We are increasingly aware today about the potential harm of period products to our bodies and the planet. This week the presence of ‘forever chemicals’ (PFAs) in period products reached the news as a study by the University of Notre Dame found detectable levels of the harmful PFAs in ‘a good fraction’ of the 120 samples they tested.
As well as the health effects* of these products, they are also leaving their mark on the planet. Gov.uk cited in April this year that one big-brand packet of period pads contains the same amount of plastic as five plastic bags, plastic that is blocking sewage systems, contaminating our water ways, and polluting our planet. Switching to planet and people-friendly products is a lot easier (and cheaper) than it may seem, and we’ve created this list to make it even bloody easier!
