Patagonia
Patagonia is the brand most synonymous with planet-friendly outdoor and adventure wear. Its “don’t buy this jacket” campaign was designed to tackle over consumption head-on and its ethos of buy less, buy better and make it last is one we can get behind.

PLANET
Patagonia have created a non-profit, the Holdfast Collective, to put all of the company’s profits into saving the planet, describing Earth as its only shareholder. They plan to be carbon neutral across their entire business, including their supply chain, by 2025 and to become carbon positive—taking more carbon out of the atmosphere than they put in— even as they grow, although they do not give a date for that. They currently fully track and measure their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. They’re also financing energy and carbon audits for partners that focus on improving energy efficiency, implementing renewable energy off-site and on-site, and reducing carbon-intensive fuels used in the manufacturing of their materials.
PEOPLE
Patagonia is US-based, and therefore we assume that they adhere to US employment regulations.
ANIMALS
All virgin wool used in Patagonia products is sourced under the strict guidelines of the RWS (Responsible Wool Standard), and the entire supply chain that processes the wool has strict chain-of-custody practices in place. They’ve also developed their own PWS (Patagonia Wool Standard), which uses RWS as a foundation but goes beyond it in several key areas of animal welfare practices.
BUSINESS
Patagonia is a certified B Corp. They also champion circularity by providing a free repair service. Their NetPlus® material is made from 100% recycled discarded fishing nets collected from fishing communities in South America. Patagonia also release annual impact reports to help increase their transparency surrounding their sustainability policies and practices.
